Design of a CNC machine for wood

Design & Engineering

Machine Design

The scope of this project includes complete development of a CNC machine intented to be used in wood carving applications for the needs of a local wood working shop. First we designed the mechanical structure and then went on with choosing the electrical and electromechanical components like the motors, the power supply, the controllers and so on. During the design Finite Element Analysis was performed using some of the tools available within SolidWorks to make sure that the displacement that is gonna appear on the working table and the gantry during working conditions will be lower than the tolerance allowed by the machine – which is very crucial if we want the machine to be as precise as specified. Mainly for the design were used rectangular tubes that would be welded together.
